Year 7 PSHE

Aims of the course:
Personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education is an important and necessary part of all pupils’ education.
PSHE is a non-statutory subject which allows schools the flexibility to tailor delivery of high-quality PSHE. There are however statutory requirements that schools must cover from September 2020 and we are already up to speed on this. In line with government recommendations, our PSHE education programme equips pupils with a sound understanding of risk and with the knowledge and skills necessary to make safe and informed decisions. The statutory content covers drug education, financial education, sex and relationship education (SRE) and the importance of physical activity and diet for a healthy lifestyle.
Through PSHE lessons and additional school provision we will ensure to safeguard pupils, support their spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development and prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life.

How can parents help?
PSHE helps to promote child wellbeing, helping to keep children safe from harm by encouraging them to make informed choices. With the right learning provision and tools, these subjects can be taught in a safe environment and provide solid foundations to children of all ages. This enables and empowers children to understand what is right and wrong in any complicated situations they face, now, and in the future. Ultimately, PSHE helps ensure that children are safe, happy and healthy, by allowing them to understand when they may not be.
As a school we understand the impact that both home and school life have on a young person. It is our most sincere aim to work alongside parents in helping to educate our young people on the topics covered. Needless to say, parents can have a huge positive affect on reinforcing the positive messages and essential education we are providing and discussions with your child are likely to be helpful.
