Homework

At Chertsey High School, we believe in empowering our students to excel academically while fostering a strong partnership with parents to support their child's learning journey.

Homework Expectations

We adhere to clear expectations regarding homework completion:

  • Key Stage 3 (KS3) Core subjects: Up to one hour per subject per week
  • Key Stage 3 (KS3) Non-core subjects: Up to one hour every fortnight
  • Key Stage 4 (KS4): At least one hour per subject per week

Our Approach

At Chertsey High School, we believe that homework:

  • Reinforces and extends classroom learning
  • Develops independent study skills
  • Encourages self-discipline and time management
  • Provides opportunities for differentiated learning
  • Strengthens the partnership between school and home

Homework Assignments

All homework is assigned through Satchel One. Students are expected to:

  • Check their Satchel One accounts daily
  • Submit work on time and to the required standard
  • Seek help from teachers if they're struggling with an assignment

Assessment and Feedback

Teachers use various methods to assess homework, including:

  • Peer assessment
  • Self-assessment
  • Teacher marking
  • Automated online marking for certain subjects

Feedback is provided to help students understand their progress and areas for improvement.

Parent/Guardian Support

We value the role of parents and guardians in supporting their child's learning. You can help by:

  • Ensuring your child has a quiet place to study
  • Encouraging regular homework habits
  • Discussing assignments with your child
  • Contacting the school if you have any concerns about homework
